This course provides an overview of risk management principles and the role of insurance in mitigating financial losses. It introduces students to the concepts of risk identification, assessment, and control, as well as various types of insurance products and their applications in personal and business settings. The course also explores the legal and regulatory framework governing the insurance industry and highlights best practices in risk management.

Principles of Management provide the students with a conceptual framework for understanding the basic theories of management.

Emphasis is placed on the internal and external environment, ethics, planning, goal setting, decision making, organizational structure, motivation/group dynamics, and effective control mechanisms.

On successfully completing the module students will be able to:
- Understand key theories, functions and principles of management.
- Understand the development of management thinking and the continuities and changes embedded in this and what makes a successful manager.
- Understand the interplay between management and organisational forms.
- Understand the connection between management practices and the business environment.


INTRODUCTION

This course aims at utilization of both lectures and Laboratory practice to introduce the nature and use of computers, internet and their risks. Through the course, students will be introduced to Computers, Computer Systems and internet

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge   

and understanding of:

 

i)         The basics of computers (processing, software, hardware, memory, input/output devices)

ii)       Introduction to operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX)

iii)      Introduction to computer Applications (word processors, spread sheets, presentations, databases)

iv)     Introduction to use of internet ( emails, searching content, copying and pasting on word processor and using web applications such as moodle etc)
